Group assignment
For this task we will use CNC machines, which entails several dangers because, for their operation, high-speed rotational tools with sharp edges, high voltage and heavy parts are used. In my case I used the Asia Robotica-1325 that I show below.
To use this machine, we are asked to dress appropriately for our protection.
We were also given design rules since the tools only create a rounded hole when cutting/plunging, it is necessary to add "dog bones" or "T bones" or also called “finger joints” which are a slight modification of the mortise, the hole where the assembly is tight and well fitted. There are also different operations involved such as:
Pocket. This operation removes the entire area within a closed shape up to a certain depth.
Cutting. This operation moves the cutting tool along a path to a certain depth. These types of cuts can be made inside the shape, outside the shape or on the line, so the software calculates the appropriate distance between the cutting tool and the vector.
Personal assignment
7. Computer controlled machining
In Ilustrator a small chair is designed, inspired by Victorian style sewing chairs, that is, a dwarf chair that allows you to stretch your legs and keep it diagonally for better blood circulation, thus avoiding the formation of varicose veins and piles due to poor circulation due to sitting for long periods. A simple style is used for ease of cutting, but this design can be prepared for a more elaborate cut and engraving with 3D reliefs to match or resemble the ornate chairs of that era.
File Preparation
Preparing for CNC cutting
To cut and engrave use the Vcarve Pro 9.015 program, this is a program that enables the use of a rotating axis to define dimensions, orientation, layout and wrapping around the axis. We use this program since the university has a license for the software.
The first thing we do is open a new file, with the characteristics of our material, in my case the measurements are 1200 x 2400 mm with a thickness of 15 mm, our design must be imported as mentioned above in DXF extension.
We must take into account the cutter, in this case we use a 12 mm straight one that will make a path inside the internal cuts and outside in the contours, so that the final product is as we thought, we must add some tabs that prevent the piece from moving and being ruined.
Once the cuts have been determined, click on the clock icon and it indicates how much time it will take approximately. This is influenced by the speed at which the cutter will run, depending on the processor you could modify this speed or not.
To export to g code each of the cut; Click on the save path icon, choose the pos processor in this case Asia robotics, save tool path, create a folder or search where it is going to be saved and accept.
Once the preparation action on the computer is finished, we are going to prepare the material on the cutting bed, for this it fits well with the clamps, followed by this we position the cutter at the desired origin, for this we will use the control that our ASIA has ROBOTICS, adjusting in x, y, z.
Before the action begins, it doesn't hurt to remember the important buttons on both the control and the processor itself.
